All visitors to the North Pemba Channel Conservation Area (PECCA) are required to pay a tourism entrance fee. This fee plays a vital role in safeguarding one of Zanzibar’s most ecologically valuable marine areas, while also supporting the coastal communities who depend on its long-term health.
PECCA is a designated Marine Protected Area (MPA), established to preserve coral reefs, protect marine life, and sustain traditional livelihoods. Managing and protecting such areas requires long-term funding—your entrance fee is part of that solution.
Tourism entrance fees are collected and managed by Blue Alliance PECCA, an independent non-profit marine conservation organisation appointed by the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries (MBEF) of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
Blue Alliance PECCA has been delegated management responsibility for North PECCA — It operates as a non-profit entity with no commercial interest, ensuring that the fees collected are appropriately directed to the protection of ecosystems and the benefit of local communities.
